August Book Review (5)

Happy Tuesday everyone it's not Tuesday,

Pillow Thoughts extended version

Yes, I already had Pillow Thoughts (left) on my bookshelf but the extended version (right) has such a pretty reflective jellyfish on the cover and an extra chapter, "If you need hope". Once I picked it up in the bookstore I could not leave without it.

1.) Pillow Thoughts II by Courtney Peppernell

And right after I got the extended version here comes the second book. Once again I enjoyed the organization and illustrations that Pillow Thoughts is known for. I also like the new cover with the splash of blue in the back.

As far as content, the second one was not as good as the first one, in my opinion. It was still a good read but I enjoyed the themes of the chapters in the first book more. The second one was a bit more lovey-dovey and mostly about the writer's partner.

2.) What was the age of the dinosaurs? By Megan Stine

I also read a children's book about dinosaurs. I mean I don't know how to review or write a summary of this one. It had facts about dinosaurs. The End.

The next few books I read on my Kindle because I found a bunch of Kindle gift cards so the pictures are just going to be screenshots. I'll be using my Kindle a bit more... Actually, I haven't used my Kindle since before I started reviewing books so for me saying, "I'll be using my Kindle a bit more" makes sense but to you it's more like, "By the way, I have a Kindle" because you never knew about it. While for the most part I like printed books better, the Kindle is more convenient in many ways, the books are often less expensive and I have gift cards so... Introducing my Kindle!

3.) Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist

This story is told from the point of view of a teenage boy named Will and follows him through his experience in a new school as a blind person.

4.) Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton

This story is told from the point of view of a teenage boy named Adam and follows him through his experience in a new school as a schizophrenic.

These two books were very similar especially as I read them back to back. They both go to a new school where they struggle with their disability. They find friends and a love interest. The difference is in Words on Bathroom Walls, Adam keeps his schizophrenia a secret from his love interest (and everyone else at school) and in Love and First Sight it's the love interest who keeps the secret from Will. I really enjoyed both books I think it gave a lot of incite to a point of view we don't hear very much in books and media so it was very fascinating to read.

Also, ironically, one of the characters sees things that aren't there and the other character sees nothing at all.

And if you're wondering what the words on the bathroom walls were they are, "Jesus loves you" and, "Don't be a homo."

5.) Light filters in poems by Caroline Kaufman

We have another poetry book and once again from a young adult/teenager. This author is only eighteen years old! As I read more and more young authors I have mixed feelings of inspiration to write my own poetry book and a bit of jealousy that this 18-year-old has a book and I'm 20 but don't!

This book is split into three parts, "The night persists", "The dawn breaks", and "The sun rises". I enjoyed the read but it didn't stand out to me more than other poetry books I've read.  I don't think it's even in my top ten.
