17 Things I Made 2 (2016-2018)

Happy Tuesday everyone,

I've been wanting to do a post about all of my paintings and realized it fits perfectly in a post I've done in the past titled 17 things I made. Check out that link for more info.

1. Frog painting (2016)

I went through a phase where I was very intensely into frogs. Every time there was any kind of thing with a frog on it I bought it. I even had these really teeny tiny frogs that like swam in a tank. I named one Alice and the other The Mad Hatter and long story short I'm pretty sure The Mad Hatter ate Alice. Anyways, so, my aunt who wasn't really my aunt threw a white elephant Christmas party every year (if you're not familiar with the rules of a white elephant there is actually a website). And someone opened one of the presents and it was this frog mask. (I might be getting the exact details wrong because it was a while ago) I was so excited and couldn't wait for my turn so I could steal this frog mask and I did! But someone decided to steal it from me on their turn. I was almost in tears (I was probably like tenish) and you weren't allowed to steal back a present soI ended up with something else that I couldn't care less about because I was so devasted over losing the frog mask. my cousin who wasn't really my cousin was pretty upset too because he opened a really awesome present that he wanted and someone stole it from him. So he decided since he couldn't get what he wanted that he would steal the frog mask and give it to me. Afterward, I asked him why he stole the frog mask and he said it was because he knew I wanted.

I wanted to be able to display the frog mask but I didn't want to put a tack through it so I painted it on a canvas and tucked it into the back. When I first painted it the background looked like it did on the left but a year later I went back and painted it like it is on the right.

2. Boat (Nov 2016) I painted this live on Facebook.

I worked in the office in high school during sixth period. I was the first desk when you walked through the front door so there were a bunch of pamphlets and a stack of the Clairemont times or something. I was bored one day so I folded a hat out of one of them and thought it looked like a boat's sail.

3. Tie (2016)

After my Papa passed away and we went through his things we found a tie card that I had made him for fathers day in preschool.

This is another painting with the object being painted is tucked into the back of the canvas.

4. Potatos (May 2017)

This was inspired by some fan art on Vanessa Hudgins Instagram account. I love potatoes. My aesthetics is potatoes. I refer to myself and my boyfriend as potatoes. So this is me and my boyfriend as potatoes. I don't really like the background so I may redo it eventually.

5. Crayon art (May 2017)

I've always wanted to do one of these but decided to wait until I had a good idea to execute. I ended up melting the crayons in two layers. First I lined up the warm colors on one end of the canvas and completely melted them to the bottom. Originally I was going to put the cool colors (my preferred spectrum of colors) on the opposite side but the hot glue I used left a residue when the crayons melted off and it made a nice groove for the next row of crayons so I put them on the same side and melted them around halfway down the canvas.

6. Paint holder thing (July 2017)

When I started painting more I switched the kind of paint I was using to these tube-like things and I thought it would be cute to hang them up in a rainbow. I found the board at Michaels a couple aisle away from where I was getting the paint. Nails would have been better to hang the paint but I used thumb tacks and they worked well enough. I wanted to paint some
letter to form a word and put them above the paint but I realized I already had the word "Art" that I had painted over five years ago. When I first painted the "A" I did rainbow stripes that weren't very good because I hadn't had much painting experience so I redid it and used a sponge so it was more blended and added an LGBTQIA+ flag. You can actually see the original "Art" on number five of the first 17 things I made post.

7. Painted, Painted Ladies (August 2017)

Last year when my friends and I went on a road trip we spent a day in San Francisco and visited these houses called "the painted ladies" (top right). There's a park across the street so we sat on a grassy hill (bottom right) with some snacks and looked at the houses.

The picture on the bottom left isn't technically on topic (it was taken at that park) but I think I look cute so there.

This trip was also where Ana and I took the pictures that create the theme of Totally Ky.

8. Dinosaur (Nov 2017)

Michaels has these canvas that already have a design on them for you to paint. They're really cheap and there were so many that I thought everyone in my (we refer to our friend group as a - ) squad would find one they liked so we did a paint day at the park.

Bottom row -  Meg (owl), Jay (shark) and Ana (horse)

9. Sunflower (December 2017)

Last semester I took a communications class with a friend (shout out to Kelly ayyyyyy!) I went to high school with (she graduated a year after me). One day I was giving her a ride and she said her favorite flowers were sunflowers so I wanted to paint her one. The problem was I ended up liking it so much that I couldn't part with it. So I painted another one, and another one and another one to make a full flower. I gave the other two I made to the professor (Hi Bryan) and a woman (Hey Heidi) I became friends with in the class.

10. Lost things

I basically just glued a bunch of random stuff to a canvas. I glued some clips and knobs to the bottom so I could hang things from it I stuck some extra things on top of the canvas. So there are some things on the top and bottom that can be removed.

This took me 15 hours. 5-hour sessions over three days. I got a blister on my foot from a burn by the hot glue gun.

11. Walrus

My aunt gave my sister a bunch of coloring books and one of them was really huge and had a bunch of different animals. My friend who loves horses was there at the time so she colored a horse picture while I colored a walrus. I liked how I colored the background and wanted to try to paint it so I did and tucked the coloring page into the back of the canvas.

12, 13, 14. :* (February 2018)

15. Found Things
(March 2018)
(Lost things part 2)

I did most of the work at night and that's when my cat comes into my room to cuddle and sleep so he sat in my working space which was cute but I was always worried he would touch the hot glue gun so while attempting to keep it away from him I burned myself and it looks like it's going to scar. Suffering for my art.

I'm gonna put more cat pictures at the end of the post.

16. Our house (April 7th, 2018)

17. (April 2018) This is my art wall
