First Official Book Review! January Book Reviews (3)

Happy Tuesday everyone, I spelled January wrong. . . I blame February.

I'm a little late with this post and I didn't read very much because school started again the 31st of January and I had to panic the week before that so this is all I have but I'm hoping it will build up from here.

The first book I read this month, as well as year,  was...

Jerry Seinfeld's SeinLanguage

I bought this during my post Christmas bookstore trip.

I was pretty much brought up on the show Seinfeld. I've probably seen the whole series a couple times. My parents and I used to watch it while we ate dinner. My parents are bigger fans than I am so I picked the book up thinking I would give it to them but I wanted to read it once first.

I did like it but I wouldn't read it again. I don't think books are the best median (Is that right?) for stand up comedians because I personally need their voice to find things funny. I did try to read the book in Seinfeld's voice but it didn't work out. A lot of what makes Seinfeld funny to me is the way he says and enunciates things. So I prefer his show and his stand-ups.

I think I enjoyed it less also because it is a bit outdated for me. So somethings went over my head and I didn't find them funny because I haven't experienced them. I think my parents will enjoy the book more than I did.

Oh, and I did enjoy the punny title. Puns are funny when they aren't delivered by my boyfriend.

Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts by Nick Seluk

The next book I read was actually a comic. I don't really read comics as in animes or DC comics but I
do like books of funny comics if that makes sense. I feel like comics as a genre have sub-genres. I have a book of snoopy comics that my mom gave me when I was in elementary school and I also have several books of Hazel comics that are so funny to me and I read them when I'm sad. I'm pretty sure I talked about Hazel during the Summer Special.

I also bought this book post-Christmas shopping and I actually wanted to buy the first book (I believe this one is the second) that I had read a couple weeks before in the book store. They couldn't find that one so they gave me this one. I did like the first book more but I did enjoy the second one. I think I liked the first one more because finding out such sort of comics existed held a lot of excitement to me. I always tall about how my heart and my brain disagreed and then i found this book where the heart and the brain actually disagree in a way I related to. I feel like my brain is the logical voice telling me to do my homework while my heart is the emotional and whimsical voice saying no let's go experience life. This book has other characters such as the stomach who fights with the tongue because it's to full but the tongue must have more food. It's really clever and funny and I like it. When I buy the other book and reread it I will review it as well.

As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the making of The Princess Bride
by Cary Elwes aka Westley
I am a big fan of The Princess Bride (The movie and then the book). It's a family movie that my mom had me watching when I was old enough to handle it. So like, five years old. It has become one of my top five favorite movies and I never get tired of it. They have it on Netflix now too.

I would call this book a good companion to the movie. It's a behind the scenes look from one of the main characters, Westley, played by Cary Elwes with commentary from the other actors as well as the author of the book and the directors of the movie.

There were some parts that were slow but besides that, I loved this book. It was great reading about Mandy Patinkin who I came to love in Criminal Minds then realize he played my favorite character in The Princess Bride as a young man. Reading about Andres the giant was also amazing and bittersweet.

Good night,
Totally Ky
